Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the difference between being fed and being nourished.
Many of us live in environments that offer an endless supply of fast food (empty calories), constant entertainment (mindless scrolling), and an overwhelming stream of content—podcasts, blog posts, videos (empty words, hot air). We can eat, drink, scroll, consume anytime, day or night. It sounds like abundance. But it contains nothing.
And this is why we’re so hungry.
Recently, during meditation, I had a moment of clarity: I wasn’t physically hungry, but on so many other levels, I was starving.
When we feel deprived or limited—not by a lack of options, but because those options don’t nourish us—we end up over-consuming in the hopes that something, anything, will satisfy.
We choke down fake love, lies, empty promises, hoping they’ll feed our hearts. We tolerate abuse, judgment, criticism, hoping they’ll make us feel seen or connected. We surround ourselves with sadness, frustration, desperation—just to feel something.
When will we grow tired of these quick fixes and instead choose true nourishment?
What will it take to say no to mindless consumption and “easy” options, and allow ourselves to receive what will actually heal us?
How have we been lying to ourselves about what we truly want, what we believe is possible? Can we begin honoring our own values and priorities?
When we decide to accept only what truly nourishes us, we shift the collective. When we choose better, the world responds, offering us more of what is good, true, and healing. By honoring ourselves—our bodies, minds, hearts, families, communities—we can feed each other what we truly need:
Love, Compassion, Honesty, Respect. We see each other. We hear each other. We witness truth in one another and respond not to trauma and pain, but to presence and wholeness. We honor each other for who we are, not for what we project or pretend to be.
Take a moment today to meditate on what truly nourishes you. Begin to say no to all that doesn’t.
In this way, you’ll find you need less to sustain more. Less effort, greater result. Less waste, more energy.
Which single aspect of your life could you change today?
