Over the years, I've wrestled with what to call myself - how to express to others what I do and what I am. I've felt myself shrink in social and professional settings where I needed to condense my identity and work into a few sentences or statements.
Believe me, I tried. I took part in a business accelerator where we practised "pitching" every few weeks. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this - in reality, narrowing things down, rather than rambling or stumbling through, actually helped me to clarify a lot. But it also felt awful trying to squeeze something so expansive into a sound bite.
Part of the discomfort, I think, is that the language around healing, intuition, and psychic ability is either viewed as too "woo" and ungrounded, or it's laden with outdated beliefs and projections that weren't really true in the first place. No wonder we can seem a bit scattered or confused - the language we use is too.
I want to change the energy around some of these words, reclaim the language and the labels, and step out of the shadows, the hiding, and the shame we've accumulated through generations of fear.
So today, let's begin to untangle what it means to be Intuitive - to use your Intuition, to live a life guided by your Intuitive Senses.
Here's the good news: if you have a nervous system and are able to use your human senses to perceive the world around you, you are also Intuitive. The idea that Intuition is something otherworldly or strange is, frankly, nonsense. Because when we begin to use our Intuition more fully, the world makes more sense than you ever thought possible.
Your physical senses give you an outline of existence, a framework of the world. Your Intuition fills in the gaps - gives it colour, shape, form, flow, dimension.
Think of it this way: you don't see the wind blowing, you see the plastic bag spinning above the ground, the trees swaying overhead, birds changing direction. Using your intuitive senses, you might get a clearer sense of the flow of the air - where or when it may shift direction, how it will move against your hair or clothing in the moments ahead. This is a small example, but one worth playing with. And if you stay light with it, softening and becoming more attuned, you might actually start to see the air move.
I know I may be losing some of you here, we're moving into more mystical territory. But that's exactly the point. I want to take the fear out of discussing what has been unknown, misunderstood, rejected, or reduced. Because until we start to understand it better, we will continue to perpetuate the confusion in the way we view and relate to ourselves.
A few questions to meditate with this week:
How has language complicated something that is, at its core, natural - a gift already within me? Could I begin to release some of the stigma around certain labels and words?
How could I show up more confidently, talk about myself more freely, without shrinking or contorting myself in ways that feel "wrong" or untrue?
What word or words would I like to reclaim?
How could I begin to work with my intuitive senses in daily life in a way that feels natural, even playful?
In a world that is always trying to define, to understand, to over-simplify, showing up more clearly as ourselves is a small act of disruption - one that grants us more space to be, to expand, to grow. Feel free to hit reply and share what you want to reclaim for yourself today.
Sending blessings for clear communication, graceful expression, and the courage to share yourself with the world.
- Jennifer
P.S. Of course, we'll be moving deeply through these themes at Practical Intuition later this month. No more trying to avoid a stereotype, or feeling you have to conform to one. You get to show up as yourself, with space for grace. Join us here (and please forward to a friend!)
