Today the moon is dark in Virgo, the sign of the healer, the refiner, the one who takes what is broken and asks what it might be for. A new moon always invites a fresh start, and this one in particular asks something more precise of us than simply beginning again. It asks us to look closely, to notice the pattern beneath the pattern, to bring healing hands to the very places we'd rather not touch. Because before there is mastery, there is the wound.
Every one of us arrives here divine and whole, and every one of us is shaped, somewhere along the way, by an experience that leaves a mark. In the old myths, this is Chiron's story, the wounded healer who could not heal himself was the great teacher of healers. His wound was not a flaw in the story, it was the doorway into it.
For most of us there is a theme, a particular thread of wounding that runs through childhood and into the years that follow, shaping the paths we walk toward and the ones we avoid. What we do with that thread matters. Some of us turn it into a bridge, and it becomes the very source of our empathy, the reason we can sit with another person's pain without flinching. And some of us, when the wound has not yet been tended, turn it into a wall. We fight, we freeze, we fawn, or we flee. We find ourselves in conflict with the very people we meant to serve.
We're learning to tell the difference, in real time, between the response that "protects" an old wound and the response that has been alchemised into something that can hold another's.
So take this new moon as an invitation, not a task. Sit with the pattern that creates the most drama in your life and simply notice how long it has been asking for your attention. Look at where your life currently feels most out of alignment, and ask whether it is an old wound steering you toward avoidance, or toward a fight that was never really about what's in front of you. Notice the place in your body where you still hold this. And then imagine, just for a moment, that the love or safety or witnessing that was missing back then is available to you now, and that you are allowed to let it in.
You are not your wounds. You are not your suffering. These are experiences, not identities, and they can become your greatest teachers rather than your longest sentence. The fire that was lit in you by pain can be redirected. It can purify instead of burn. It can become the very thing that lets you guide others through their own darkness with steadiness instead of urgency.
This is the threshold at the heart of Leading from Within: Turning Wounds to Wisdom, a seven-week archetypal initiation for healers, leaders and teachers who are ready to meet their own wounding not as something to manage, but as the doorway to a deeper, truer way of guiding others. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, from the 14th of October through the 25th of November, moving through the myths, the archetypes and the shadow-work that turn a wound into wisdom, and wisdom into the capacity to hold the world well.
If some part of you has been circling this work for a while now, let this new moon be the sign. The doors are open now, and I would be honoured to walk this threshold with you.
Sending blessings to help you to return to yourself.
