Why is healing necessary to Lead?

First off, thank you to everyone who joined me on Wednesday for The Warrior and the Weaver. It was a gift to sit in circle with you and with the old story of the wounded healer and the weaver of fate.

With Leading from Within beginning this coming Wednesday, I want to share why I created it, and why I believe it is so needed now.

I believe true leadership is a calling. It isn't posturing or pretending, and it is not ego or control. Your sense of leadership becomes a response to something larger than ourselves, a willingness to be of service.

We hear a great deal about the filters of our age: the polished images and curated selves that shape how we see one another. But often, the filters that shape our leadership most are the ones we cannot see. They are formed by our own unresolved stories, the wounds we have not yet healed, and when we lead through them, we cannot see beyond them. Without meaning to, we project them onto the very people we are here to serve.

The leaders I trust most are the clearest. They have emotional intelligence, and they have also taken the time to tend to their own inner landscape, so that they, and the space they hold, are healthy. Whether you guide a team, a classroom, a client or a circle, the space you hold is greatly shaped by the clarity you bring to it.

For years, in my teaching on boundaries, I have returned again and again to the old wisdom: healer, heal thyself. If you wish to be a great teacher or healer, you walk the path first, and then you show others the way. That is integrity. Not "do as I say," but "walk as I have walked," in your own way, with what  is known and embodied offered as a lantern for the journey. It makes the teaching grounded and real, and it gives it gravitas in the truest sense.

We are not here to harm those we are meant to help. We are here to see them in their highest light, with enough clarity that their truer selves can emerge. And we can only offer that clarity when we have cleared our own lens.

This is why Leading from Within exists. Over seven weeks, we turn toward the wound as a doorway, follow the stories and patterns we keep returning to, meet the archetypes and their shadows, and answer the call to serve from wisdom rather than from the wound. On the final evening, you build your own archetype: a living form for the leader, healer and guide you are becoming.
