Where are you within the pendulum swing?

I've been meditating a lot lately about the past few years. I've been looking at how massive disruption to our lives created shifts in momentum, delayed plans, ended paradigms, and created space for phases to finish. For me, the dying off of identities and trajectories has been the most interesting aspect, as well as the most confusing or painful at times. While some things ground to a halt, others just got left in neutral, slowing in pace, until the movement stopped.

As someone who is used to working, planning, getting things done, and working with momentum to move ahead, the past few years have required me to reassess they ways that I operate, and to pivot, even when I wasn't sure I wanted to. But approaching this Winter Solstice, it feels that there is a possibility for change...

If you think of the seasons like a pendulum swinging, the Solstices represent the highest point of the swing, the edges, when the length of days and nights move from one extreme, back towards the other. It reminds me of playing on the swings as a child. One of my favourite sensations is when I'd built up enough speed to send the swing to the highest point, where I was just starting to rise above the seat, almost floating, almost weightless.

We move into those points energetically in many ways. We do this with every in and out breath, in deep meditative states, within music and dance, and when we move into a creative choice point. Time slows, the mind clears, we become weightless in the present moment, free from the obligations of past choices or current roles.

There is a sense of seeing your life from a higher perspective, with the capacity to free yourself from burden, just as you seemingly free yourself from gravity, just like on the swing.

Take a moment to breathe in that feeling of lightness, a higher view point, playfulness, innocence, fun.

Now imagine what it could be like to end one season and begin another with that energy. And know that it is possible, because the energy is present, palpable! And imagine what could evolve in the lightness if you looked up, and corrected your course, to stay with that sense of freedom. What could the possibilities be?

A few things to meditate on over the coming days:

  • As I move towards a new Winter Season, Capricorn Season, with the ability to plan and build anew, what could I leave behind to lighten the load?
  • What one change could I make in my daily life that would have the most impact? How could I make it more possible to follow through with this?
  • What was my favourite game or activity as a child? What can I do now that would help me to tap back into that state of lightness, joy, creativity, play?
  • Why do I feel that I have to stay on the same path if it does not serve me? What could evolve if I created another?

Remember that we sometimes require a moment to remember that the path we are on is one that can change. And that if we create practices or set times to reassess, we reawaken and remember why we are here, and how our paths can unfold in more beautiful ways. Will you choose the path of the awakened?

Feel free to hit 'reply' and share what this brings up for you. I would love to witness your musings, questions, and epiphanies!
