When you feel hindered, how do you find your way?

Do you follow fear, or your future?

Hello beautiful beings, I hope that you are navigating this eclipse season with some grace! The energy has been pretty intense over the past few weeks, and we have a few more to go before eclipse season draws to a close.  And in the spirit of using what is present to our advantage, I have an idea for you to lean into and consider...

The obstacle is the way.

This idea came to mind when | was teaching a workshop recently, and it has been present in my awareness since then. It comes from Roman Emperor and Stoic Philosopher, Marcus Aurelius. He wrote, "The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."

Over the past few weeks, I have been confronted with my oldest insecurities so that I can work through them and heal them. I had the privilege of meeting a favourite poet last weekend, and instead of fully enjoying the excited anticipation, my old fears around taking up too much time or space kept creeping into my awareness. I had to spend time in meditation to recognise that these are from childhood dynamics, and in fact did not apply any longer. But if I had not recognised the insecurites, or had unconsciously followed them, I would have turned down a beautiful opportunity, or suffered throughout the interaction. I had to challenge the fears that caused me to hesitate, and choose to go ahead anyway. Not only did I enjoy the experience, I was able to resolve a lot of outdated connections, and feel more confident as a result. I also learned a lot, and made new friends, something I have been asking for! It was a great reminder that we are given opportunities to receive, but we must also take action to make it real.

This is a small example of how we can apply Aurelius's guidance. For me, it is a call to consider what we avoid, what we fear, our insecurities and doubts, and to courageously and consciously choose what really aligns. Instead of biting your tongue, you speak up, with heart and grace. Instead of gossiping, or talking about small ideas, you share bigger ideas and ideals. Instead of hiding away, you get out of the house and make new connections, create new memories, and open yourself to new life.

Whatever the excuses are to really living are what you examine, to witness them fall apart, and open a door to a greater existence.

With the current planetary transits, we are invited to slow down, to assess what is present, and to release the suffering that creates obstacles and clouds vision. Spend time over the next few days considering:

  • What are the old memories, identities, ways that I view myself that stop me from evolving and growing?
  • What do I believe about myself that is not true?
  • Which doubts and judgements have derailed me throughout my life?
  • What do I believe is impossible, that would open my life to greater growth, love, freedom?

Remember that when we face our fears, we are no longer afraid. What is meaningful is not always easy. If we can be inspired to take action, when we unconsciously want to give up or hide away, we develop the gifts and virtues that will help us most. Lean into the obstacle, allow it to uncover your judgements, and move through them into a brighter path.

**We will connect online on Tuesday, to clear the way for the next 6 months and beyond!
