Are you Making Space for the Sacred?

Uncategorized Jun 17, 2025

I remember being in the London Underground a few years ago (one of my favourite places - I have the most amazing spiritual experiences down there!), and hearing a very good musician play Purple Rain… in the middle of a medley.

Purple Rain is one of my soul songs. I believe it’s a masterpiece. The fact that it had been crammed into the middle of a bunch of other tracks, without space to breathe, to reverberate, felt sacrilegious.

I remember waiting tables while I was at university, and I had a great relationship with my manager. One day, during a busy lunch shift, Purple Rain came on over the restaurant speakers. I looked at him and said, “I’m not moving for the next nine minutes.” He smiled and stood next to me while everyone else rushed around us. He got it, too.

Last week, I had the privilege of witnessing the great Bonnie Raitt play at Usher Hall. She’s an incredible blues guitarist, so good she makes it look as natural as breathing. At one point, the whole room rose in a standing ovation before she’d even finished her set. We couldn’t hold back. We had to let her know right then: You moved us.

Before she went on, I was thinking about I Can’t Make You Love Me, another soul-melter of a song. And suddenly, it felt so wrong that it ever gets clipped on the radio… cut short by a commercial or some chatty DJ. Or that someone could be half-listening to it in traffic, rushing to work, missing the ache, the sacredness of it - that feels off too.

There’s an ad that keeps popping up in my feed: “Instead of scrolling, try micro-learning.”
Okay… sure. A quick hit of insight is better than mindless scrolling.
But the trend of cutting everything down into tiny chunks just to keep our ever-distracted attention? That’s where I feel the friction.

Yes, meditating for 10 minutes has its benefits. But sit for 30… 40… more. And your system starts to reset. Your body softens. Your nervous system exhales. Your mind stops resisting and begins to reveal. That’s where the deep medicine lives.

There’s power in giving things time - in letting them unfold. The sacred lives in the spaces we actually make sacred.

For me, that’s the music of Prince, Bonnie, Jon Hopkins, Max Richter, Nils Frahm, and so many more. Their soundscapes move me into a different state of being, one that heals, that realigns, that opens me up to the Divine.

Maybe for you it’s different: dance, running, tai chi, your garden, painting, meditation, your daily walk with the dog.
Whatever it is, I hope you’ve found it. And I hope you return to it, again and again.

Because the sacred is always here. Inside us. All around us. But when we’re speeding through life, skimming surfaces, glancing but not seeing, we miss it. We only half-hear the music of the world.

This is why I’ve stepped away from surface-level content. I’m not here to produce for the algorithm. I want to create and host experiences that let people drop in - really drop in. Long enough to shift something in the soul. Deep enough to be remembered.

Forgettable isn’t an option for me anymore. And I don’t think I’m alone.

So many of us are leaving the noise, stepping away from the endless scroll. Craving depth. Craving truth. Craving what’s real and rooted.

We’re coming home - to ourselves, to Soul, to what actually matters.

As we move toward the Summer Solstice, the peak of light, warmth, and courage, I invite you to sit with this:

  • What is sacred to me? And am I giving it enough of my time, my presence, my energy?

  • What would help me invite the sacred into my daily life - art, music, singing, writing, dancing, silence?

  • What moments have brought me closest to the Divine? What made me pause? What helped me feel the beauty in simply being?

  • If I saw my life as sacred - if I saw myself as sacred - what would I choose differently? How would I show up?

The sacred is here, always. But it waits for your devotion. It thrives in the space you create for it. And when you choose to honour it - really honour it - it begins to saturate everything. The way you walk, the way you speak, the way you touch the world.

So, how will you choose to make your life sacred?

Sending blessings to each of you, for time and space to embrace the Sacred.
