What have you inherited that is your greatest gift?

Hello Eternal Souls,

I hope you’re feeling the magic of this week—Samhain, Halloween, All Hallows' Eve, Day of the Dead. It’s one of my favorite times of the year, and I’m excited to be attending Edinburgh’s Samhain Fire Festival this evening!

This season always draws my focus to the past. But not my own past—the past of those who came before me. We are the products of lifetimes and generations, carrying an incredible blend of traits, knowledge, talents, memories, perceptions, and lived experiences. It can feel overwhelming to think of everything that has happened to allow us to be here, on this plane, in these forms. We walk as products of time, co-creation, biology, soul connection, and immeasurable earthly and divine influence.

When I feel pessimistic, doubtful, or cynical about my own life or circumstances, I allow my perspective to expand beyond this lifetime—and I remember there is a rhyme and reason to my existence. This brings me peace and a deeper sense of connection.

Starting tomorrow, with the Scorpio New Moon, I’ll be holding personal rituals to connect with my ancestors. I do this for a few reasons:

First, to resolve any unconscious conditioning I may still be following. I’m grateful for the paths my ancestors chose, but I don’t necessarily want to repeat them. I can learn from them without re-living their experiences. And when I heal this within myself, they receive healing too—it’s a beautiful, reciprocal process.

I also recognize that I chose my family line for a reason. My family members and ancestors possess talents, wisdom, and gifts that I deeply value. These potentials live within me, and I feel blessed to have inherited them. I take time to thank them for their dedication and endurance, and I invite these gifts to amplify within me so I can learn to use them in my own life.

Connecting with my ancestors brings a sense of comfort, too. While I don’t always agree with their choices or beliefs, I know we chose each other. Feeling the support within that extended family energy is deeply reassuring. It’s good to remember this support when self-doubt arises.

Finally, I’ve found that some of my clearest guidance comes from my ancestors. Though times have changed, wisdom is wisdom, and truths grounded in love and integrity can transcend time. I ask them to help me see more clearly, to open my heart and mind, and to help me feel stronger as I move forward.

I encourage you to explore your own connections with your ancestors. You don’t need to know them personally to receive their blessings or support. Simply ask, and open yourself to love.

A few questions to meditate on and/or ask your ancestors:

  • What gifts or potentials are within me that I have not yet explored? What strengths have I not yet become aware of?
  • Which ancestor could help me most with ________ issue? What would they say/show me to guide my next step?
  • Which issue within me could resolve, which would also heal my ancestor(s)? What do I need to understand for this to happen?
  • Which pattern am I unconsciously following that can end with me now? What have I inherited that I can finish?

Remember that you are the culmination of hundreds of ancestors, languages, customs, rituals, and stories. Allow yourself to sit in wonder and awe at your unique existence, and all that has lead to this, to you.

Sending blessings and healing to each of you, and of course, to your ancestors.

P.S. If you'd like to learn how to commune with your ancestors, you're invited to join us next month, on the Theta Healing Basic online course!
