We are within one of my favourite windows of time, the few days around Samhain, All Hallows' Eve, and Day of the Dead. This little portal of time, where the veil thins, always feels little more magical and mysterious, open to possibility.
During these few days, I always take time to meditate with my ancestors, and explore my genetic lines, and I do this for a few reasons.
One of the questions I ask myself regularly is whether I am living my own path, or that of my ancestors'. I chose to be born into a family with a lot of religious leanings, often conservative, not always in alignment with what I believe. But they were and are in many ways dedicated, selfless, giving, and devoted to connecting with God or the Divine. I used to judge them for our differences, and then I began to recognise that we were using a lot of the same gifts and virtues, and had many of the same goals in mind. I too want to help people connect with the Divine.
So I look for my ancestors' gifts, virtues,...
Today is World Health Day, and while we often view or talk about health in terms of the physical, I wanted to move us into the realm of the Relational. Today's post is the first in a series of 3, and hopefully a great way to get you started!
I have repeatedly witnessed in every facet, physical, emotional, spiritual, that gaining clarity on what it means to have healthy boundaries, allows everything else to fall into place.
But we overcomplicate it, we project our past problems onto a concept that we could simplify, and become overwhelmed with surface solutions that never reach the heart of the matter.
So let's strip away the excess..
A powerful first step towards moving into healthier alignment is to recognise what you value.
Your values will motivate your choices on every level. But sometimes we can be motivated in unhealthy ways. We may want more freedom, so we create hard barriers to connection, make ourselves unavailable, or say no to...
Over the past few weeks, I've written about the Hedonist and the Purist. Time to dive into the mindset of the Conformist.
The Conformist finds comfort in what has already been established, the known path, inside of the comfort zone. They are more likely to lean towards tradition, what is already known or accepted, finding comfort in the past.
Like the other 2 ideologies, there is a time an place to lean into conformity. When we tap into ancient wisdom or practices, we walk the path of wisdom. When we seek a mentor or leader/guide to support, we are tapping into what has been tried and tested, enabling us to hopefully make fewer mistakes or face lesser obstacles along the way.
But here we are in Aquarius season, where conformity is rebelled against, rejected, shunned. At times like this, we are thrown into the kaleidoscope, where the comfortable or predictable are less present or unrecognisable. And so at times like this, there may be less of a place to conform, and...
Are you feeling Hedonistic or Virtuous?
I saw the movie Babylon this week, on the big screen, in all its glory, and it was an experience! Bright, loud, intense for the eyes and ears, there was no looking away or tuning it out. I won't give away the details of the stories weaving through, but one of the main themes circled around Hedonism, and the quality of life it provides.
I think that we can all look at our pasts, possibly towards our younger years, and recognise those within our group of friends who were the hedonists. (Maybe you were the one?) Our hedonistic friends are always up for a good time, ready to celebrate, planning for the next party. They can be great cheerleaders and encouragers, and often have a knack for introducing connections. But they usually slip out with shoes in hand when it comes time to clean up, pick up the pieces, or make conscious, responsible decisions. I will admit, a little bit of hedonism...
Hello beautiful beings, I've just finished teaching a group of awesome souls over the weekend, and am feeling energised and inspired! These occasions bring me back to evaluating what inspires me, a reminder to continue to build my life around ideals, events, and people that contribute to what I value.
I spoke in class yesterday about three words or qualities that continue to be a part of this, year after year: Vision, Wisdom, & Wonder
I have been interviewing and learning from a few incredible people over the past month (I'll be sharing more in the near future), and was fortunate enough to spend a few hours with Davide de Angelis last week, delving into the meaning of what it means to be a Visionary. He has built his life around his great capacity to live and create art through this ability. Having this ability means that we are able to see into the future, and to be inspired by what lies beyond our current circumstances, enabling us to create beyond the known. It...
Edge of Eclipse
On Tuesday, we connect with the first eclipse of 2, in Scorpio, with a Scorpio New Moon. A partial solar eclipse, reducing the light from the sun, with a dark new moon. This is an opportunity to release the past and uncover, remember, rediscover deeper truths within...
One of the concepts I have been pondering and refining for awhile now centers around Purpose or Dharma, and more specifically, what we are built for.
I believe that each of us has chosen to exist here in this lifetime, this plane, for various reasons. I also believe that we did not come without a plan, or arrive 'empty-handed'.
Imagine that you are planning a journey, one of importance, that would have an impact, both on yourself, and the lives your journey intersects with.
There would be many reasons for the endeavor, and because of its importance, you would prepare yourself. You would not begin without some knowledge of timing, terrain, or potential obstacles you could face....
I've spoken a lot recently about the ways we attempt to alter our own chemistry, so that we can feel different. We drink, smoke, eat, walk, sleep, dance, sing, clean, and choose other activities in an attempt to feel better. We know that some of these choices will up our Dopamine and Serotonin levels, so we pick things that feel easy and convenient to alter our states.
Especially over the past few years, many of us have felt low, either frequently, or at some point, collectively grieving what we have missed, and the lack of shared experiences. The problem is that often when we go too low, we over shoot, and seek out a high.
Highs are temporary, fleeting, and often come with a crash after-our bodies cannot sustain them, nor are we meant to live in them all of the time. And highs are often pursued through unhealthy patterns, addiction, cravings, trying to fill a gap, and they never really satisfy.
So here is what I am proposing:
High is not...
Hello human beings, I hope you are enjoying the lightness of this New Moon! I always feel a little bit lucky and lighter around a new moon, but this one in particular has some 'magic' to it. Not magic in a flighty, insincere way. It has a deep, grounded, tangible, presence...
We entered into Aquarius Season over a week ago, and with the shift in energy, I have been feeling more HOPE.
Hope hasn't always felt tangible over the past few years. There has been a lot of change, delay, and uncertainty, which over a prolonged period of time, can begin to wear away the shine.
But it is at these times that Hope is really learned. It is through practice of active hope that we really are able to embody this powerful virtue.
Hope is not a passing fancy, a lazy wish. Hope is not indecision. It is not illusion, or an attempt to fool ourselves (though we often try to use it in this way).
Hope is an...
Happy Halloween beautiful beings, I hope you are enjoying the energy this weekend! Over the next few days, the veil 'thins', we are able to more easily connect with and witness what is beyond the physical realm.
Each year, I spend this time meditating with my ancestors. What I have learned is that they contain a vast amount of knowledge, wisdom, and experience. I have recognised that so much of my strength, discernment, and faith have been interited, and have grown within me through each choice to apply them and evolve.
Your ancestors were the survivors, the warriors, as well as the singers, artists, and inventors. They were skilled, dedicated, and knowledgeable. I know that we can often get caught up in the belief that we have to dedicate so much time and energy to healing them, that we forget all that we can gain from our connection with them.
Schedule some time this weekend to remember the gifts within your ancestral lines, to feel them...
We are nearing the end of eclipse season, a time to clear your mind and body, to recalibrate your course, with fresh eyes and intuition. For many, the past 6 weeks have been changeable, a bit of a roller coaster, unsure of the coming days or even moments. As this energy begins to settle, we can assess what has altered and what has remained.
For those who have been more courageous, consciously editing their minds and lives, what remains will be strong, and have integrity. These are the foundations to build upon, they will last. If we have hesitated, or allowed ourselves to remain in wishful thinking, there may still be options present that lead to nowhere.
Over the past year or so, I've been contemplating what God is to me. I know that we can have some conflicting beliefs and ideas about the divine, so I've started to question/ponder what is worthy of my worship, praise, devotion. We all 'worship' different things in...
